Day 1: Arrival
Non-riding dayWelcome to Montana, globetrotters! Today you’ll fly into Montana and make your way to the ranch, arriving anytime from 2pm. You will be greeted by the friendly team and check into your cosy cabin before regrouping for a brief tour of the ranch. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy: settle into your surrounds, unwind on the porch or take a walk along one of the dozens of tranquil trails. In the evening, everyone – guests, wranglers, farmhands – gathers in the Lodge dining room for a cheerful, hearty dinner of quintessential Western cuisine.

Day 2 onwards: Daily riding and ranch activities
1 to 3 hours in the saddle dailyFor the rest of your stay, each day will revolve around the riding (and non-riding) activities on offer. Both morning and afternoon rides will be on the cards, mostly relaxed and slow-paced, with three optional fast rides scheduled throughout your stay. You’ll roam across wide-open prairies, follow the beautiful Judith River, join a cattle drive, and cross into Helena Lewis & Clark National Forest. You could spend a lifetime exploring this 2.8 million-acre forest, with river canyons, caves and mountains aplenty. This is Big Sky Country at its best! If you are a beginner rider, or returning to the saddle after a long break, this is a wonderful chance to progress at your own pace, perhaps book a private lesson (at an additional cost), and work your way up to joining one or two of the fast rides later in the week.
*Please note that regardless of your riding ability, all guests must do at least one slow ride and pass the ‘lope test’ in an enclosed arena before joining a fast ride.
Off the horse, there are chances to try your hand at archery, clay shooting and axe throwing, plus UTV (quad) tours, hiking and fly fishing (make sure you’ve got your Montana State fishing license). You can also visit nearby Sapphire Village and the associated mine, the only place in the world where precious Yogo Sapphires can be found.
In the evenings, you can soak away any sore muscles in the hot tub, test your aim with a lasso, or rope up some fellow guests for games or square dancing. One thing is for certain: you will NOT be short of things to do!
-
Final Day: Departure
Non-riding dayAfter breakfast, you will saddle up for one last ride through the beautiful hills of Montana. Then it’s time to pack your bags and say goodbye to the wonderful ranch team, checking out at 11am.

Non-Riding Activities
At this Montana ranch there’s plenty to keep non-riders busy and engaged beyond the saddle, from testing your aim with archery and sport shooting to exploring the property and surrounding national forest on guided UTV tours or on foot through scenic hiking trails. You can fish in wide swaths of the Judith River (fishing license to be purchased beforehand, limited fishing gear available to borrow), try your hand at axe throwing, relax in the hot tub, explore nearby caves, and enjoy classic ranch pastimes like wildlife watching, lawn games and social evenings around the fire or in the historic barn.

Accommodation
Accommodation ranges from charming historic cabins with sweeping ranch views, cosy fireplaces and either a wet bar or kitchenette, to the welcoming lodge, which offers a full kitchen, dining room, spacious living room and three guest rooms known as the Buffalo Rooms, perfect for couples. Larger groups and families can settle into the Ranch House – a generous four-bedroom, three-bathroom home that comfortably sleeps eight and provides an easy, relaxed base for a Montana getaway. Each room is equipped with basic toiletries, a hair dryer, and free WiFi.
Food
Meals at the ranch are served in the welcoming lodge dining room, where all guests are encouraged to interact over the long tables. Mornings begin with hearty homemade favourites – think pancakes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, or a warm breakfast burrito – along with lighter continental options if you prefer something simple before heading out. Lunch keeps you fuelled for the afternoon’s adventures, and in the evening everyone gathers back in the lodge for generous, comforting dishes such as steaks, pork chops, pastas and fresh trout, often enjoyed beside the crackling wood-burning fireplace on cooler nights. This is simply but hearty Western fare.

What's my riding level?
Not sure what your riding level is? Watch our videos to see all our levels.
Beginner
Reasonably confident riding a horse at a walk, a rising trot, and learning to canter.
Intermediate
Confident and in control riding at all paces outside an arena, but not riding regularly. Comfortable and competent using aids {the language of your leg, seat and hands} to communicate with your horse.
Strong Intermediate
An intermediate rider who is currently riding regularly outside of an arena and is fit enough to ride for at least six hours per day. Strong intermediate riders are comfortable and competent in all three gaits; able to post or sit to the trot; have an independent seat while cantering (don’t hold onto the saddle); and can pick up the correct canter lead. They can also navigate more complex terrain, including asking a horse to sidestep and jump over a small obstacle.
Advanced
A frequent rider who is very fit, comfortable in the saddle for at least six hours per day, and has an independent seat and soft hands. Advanced riders are confident on a forward-moving horse at all paces over rough and variable ground on open terrain. They can ride over small jumps and know the techniques used to collect a horse
