Suitable for strong intermediate to advanced riders. Physical fitness is a necessity! You must be riding regularly and able to navigate varying terrain at all paces.

- Type of tack
Indian Sawar saddles, English bridles (snaffle bits) and traditional cloth pugarees (a standing martingale with a neck strap).
- Horse breed
Marwari horses, the Indigenous horse breed of India, with their distinctive lyre shaped ears. Their name derives from their homeland - the Marwar region of Rajasthan. Standing between 15-16hh, these horses are capable of covering long distances with good speed by virtue of their strong limbs and hooves. They can withstand intense heat and adverse climatic conditions, making them perfect desert horses.
- Accommodation
Depending on your chosen itinerary, accommodation will be a mixture of heritage castles, palaces, traditional hotel and tented camp accommodation. If booked on an itinerary that has camping, all tents have ensuite bathrooms (with bucket showers and bucket flush toilets) and come fully equipped with all furniture, linen, towels etc. The hotels are a mixture of modern heritage castles and bespoke gems, chosen for ambience, history, architecture, location and quality.

Leopard Trail: 8 days, 7 nights (5 riding days)
Accommodation: 2 nights in hotels, 5 nights camping.Beginning and ending in Udaipur, the Leopard Trail weaves from palace-lined lakes and the mighty Kumbhalgarh Fort into the saddle, riding Marwari horses through sanctuaries, forests, villages and the rolling landscapes of the Aravalli ranges. Day 3: Ride to Dantiwara Lake
4 to 6 hours in the saddleBegin your horse journey with a full day riding through villages and across the open plains of the Aravalli Hills, stopping for a relaxed picnic lunch before reaching your lakeside camp at Dantiwara.

Day 4: Bali Forest
4 to 6 hours in the saddleRide southwest toward Perwa in the Bali Forest, passing rural farmsteads and weaving through smooth volcanic rock formations. A long, shaded picnic lunch breaks the day before arriving back at camp.

Day 5: Jawai Bandh & Leopards
4 hours in the saddleAn early start offers the chance to spot leopards before breakfast, followed by a ride onward to wild Jawai Bandh, a dramatic landscape of granite outcrops, scrub and winding sand riverbeds. In the late afternoon and evening, head out by jeep in search of leopards among the rocks.

Day 6: Jawai to Jodhpur
Non-riding dayTransfer by road to Jodhpur and check in to your hotel before an afternoon exploring mighty Mehrangarh Fort, rising sheer above the Blue City. The evening is free for market wandering and browsing antique warehouses.

Day 7: Mathania to Osian
4 to 5 hours in the saddleA short drive brings you to Mathania, where you reunite with your Marwari horses and ride northwest across pink granite landscapes toward the edge of the Thar Desert. Passing hamlets and farmsteads, pause for a picnic lunch and siesta before continuing to camp near historic Osian.

Day 8: Osian to Hacra
4 to 6 hours in the saddleRide deeper into the dunes, through classic desert scenery of thatched huts, acacia scrub and open sands. Wildlife sightings may include nilgai, chinkara gazelle and mongoose as you arrive at camp near the hamlet of Hacra.

Day 9: Hacra to Cullu
4 to 6 hours in the saddleA full day riding north through deeper sand highlights the stamina and surefootedness of your Marwari horse, bred for this very landscape in the heart of the Marwar region.

Day 10: Cullu to Khichan
4 to 6 hours in the saddleYour final day in the saddle makes the most of open terrain and the strong partnership built with your horse. Arrive at Khichan, famed for its winter gathering of thousands of migratory demoiselle cranes, and farewell your horses as they travel home for a well-earned rest.

Day 11: Khichan & Pushkar Camel Fair
Non-riding dayVisit the nearby bird feeding grounds early this morning before driving to Pushkar. As the Pushkar Camel Fair unfolds, explore the vast fairgrounds in the cooler hours, then climb the hill at sunset to watch ‘cow dust time’ settle over one of India’s great spectacles.

Day 12: Pushkar Camel Fair
Non-riding daySpend the day immersed in the colour, energy and scale of the Pushkar Camel Fair, where thousands of camels, horses and cattle are traded and pilgrims gather to bathe in the holy lake ahead of the full moon.

Day 13: Departure from Jaipur
Non-riding dayTransfer by road to Jaipur, with time for lunch and last-minute shopping before continuing to the airport for onward departure, closing an extraordinary journey through Rajasthan’s festivals, horses and desert landscapes.

Arrival before 2pm on day 1 is recommended. Departure can be anytime after breakfast on the last day.

Accommodation
Depending on your chosen itinerary, accommodation will be a mixture of heritage castles, palaces, traditional hotel and tented camp accommodation. If booked on an itinerary that has camping, all tents have ensuite bathrooms (with bucket showers and bucket flush toilets) and come fully equipped with all furniture, linen, towels etc.
The hotels are a mixture of modern heritage castles and bespoke gems, chosen for ambience, history, architecture, location and quality.
Food
Food is an essential part of travelling in India, and you’ll be swept away by the variety and intensity of flavours at every meal. Hotels offer both Western and Indian dishes, but it’s in camp that the true tastes of India shine, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients cooked on-site. From hearty breakfasts of porridge, poha and eggs to flavour-packed lunches and dinners of curries, vegetables, chapatti, sweet puddings and more, every meal is a delicious celebration of the region.

Beginner
Reasonably confident riding a horse at a walk, a rising trot, and learning to canter.
Intermediate
Confident and in control riding at all paces outside an arena, but not riding regularly. Comfortable and competent using aids {the language of your leg, seat and hands} to communicate with your horse.
Strong Intermediate
An intermediate rider who is currently riding regularly outside of an arena and is fit enough to ride for at least six hours per day. Strong intermediate riders are comfortable and competent in all three gaits; able to post or sit to the trot; have an independent seat while cantering (don’t hold onto the saddle); and can pick up the correct canter lead. They can also navigate more complex terrain, including asking a horse to sidestep and jump over a small obstacle.
Advanced
A frequent rider who is very fit, comfortable in the saddle for at least six hours per day, and has an independent seat and soft hands. Advanced riders are confident on a forward-moving horse at all paces over rough and variable ground on open terrain. They can ride over small jumps and know the techniques used to collect a horse
